How an order works
Three stages between our workbench and your room
Made
Nothing is sitting in a warehouse. When you order, your piece is cast from our own moulds in plaster or resin, painted and sealed by hand. The production time for each piece is shown beneath the Add to Cart button, and we email you the moment it is dispatched.
Dispatched
Lamps and larger pieces travel by UPS Express, smaller pieces by Royal Mail, which hands over to USPS on arrival in the States. You receive a tracking link by email. Tracking goes live once the courier scans the parcel, usually within two working days.
Delivered
Allow 2 to 10 working days from dispatch depending on the service you chose. With a duties paid service there is nothing further to pay and clearance is faster. Every parcel is packed for the crossing, and if anything is damaged in transit it is ours to put right, not yours.
Customs, plainly
What happens with import duties
Since 29 August 2025, every parcel entering the United States is subject to import duties and taxes, whatever its value. That applies to every overseas shop, not only to us. The difference is whether you pay at checkout or at the door.
We recommend a duties paid (DDP) service. The charges are calculated and included in your total before you pay, the parcel clears customs without a pause, and the courier does not need to contact you for money. A duties unpaid (DDU) service can look cheaper at checkout, but the courier will collect the duties, tax and a handling fee before releasing the parcel.
Once an order is placed we cannot switch it from DDU to DDP, so it is worth choosing carefully. The full detail is on our shipping page.

Recommended for smaller pieces
Duties and taxes paid at checkout. Delivered by USPS. Around 7 to 10 working days.
UPS Express DDP
Recommended for lamps and larger pieces
Duties and taxes paid at checkout. Around 2 to 5 working days.
UPS Express DDU
Duties collected on arrival
Lower price at checkout; UPS collects duties, import tax and a brokerage fee before delivery.

Lamps, bulbs and fittings
A note on lighting
Our lamps are CE and UKCA certified, with declarations of conformity available on request. Bulbs are not included, and each lamp page lists the fitting it takes and the maximum wattage, so you can match it to what is available where you live.
Our certification covers UK and EU directives. If you are unsure whether a particular lamp suits your fittings at home, email us before ordering and we will tell you plainly.
Returns, plainly
If it is not right
- Damaged in transit: tell us within 14 days with photographs of the piece and the box, and we repair, replace or refund. Do not send anything back until we ask.
- Faulty or not what you ordered: tell us within 30 days for a full refund or replacement, return postage on us.
- Changed your mind: return it within 14 days of delivery for a refund, or within 30 days for an exchange or store credit. Return shipping from the US is paid by you, and any duties you paid are not refunded by us. Custom and engraved pieces cannot be returned.

A workshop in the Cynon Valley
The Blackened Teeth was founded in 2018 by Rebecca and Lee Arnett in Aberaman, a former mining village in South Wales. Today a workshop of around fifteen people designs, casts, paints and packs every piece that leaves the building. The references are ecclesiastical stonework, baroque ornament and the Victorian way with mourning; the methods are our own moulds and a great deal of hand finishing.
The United States is our largest audience outside the UK, and has been for some time. If you have seen our pieces in someone's home on Instagram, there is a fair chance that home was in America.
